Nepal lost against Bangladesh by 21 runs


Nepal lost to Bangladesh in their last match in ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Nepal lost to Bangladesh by 21 runs on Sunday.

Chasing the target of 107 runs given by Bangladesh, Nepal was reduced to 85 runs in 19.2 overs. With the defeat, Nepal has failed to win two consecutive matches against a Test nation. Bangladesh has entered the Super Eight.

Needing 22 runs off 15 balls, Nepal faced 11 consecutive dot balls and lost. Nepal lost the last 4 wickets in those 11 balls.

In the last three overs, Nepal needed 29 runs to win, but Nepal managed to score 7 runs in the 18th over. Mustafizur Rahman took a wicket in the 19th over. In the last ball of that over, Dipendra Singh Airey was dismissed after scoring 25 runs in 31 balls.

On the first ball of the last over, Shakib Al Hasan stumped Sompal Kami. After Avinash Bohora was also dismissed in the second ball, Nepal lost.

Opener Kushal Bhurtel's bad batting streak continued today. In the second over, he scored 4 runs on Tanjim Hasan Shakib's full toss ball and was bowled.

Anil Sah's bat did not work today. He was caught out in the third over by Tanjim Kai for a wicket. Captain Rohit Paudel scored 1 run and was caught by Rishad Hossain in the fifth over.

Ashif Shaikh, who got off to a promising start, was made his prey by Mustafizur Rahman. Ashif scored 17 runs in 14 balls with 4 fours and was caught by Shakib.

Even Sandeep Zora, who came to the team today, could not bat memorable. Tanjim caught him out from Rishad's hand at point.

Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airi shared a 52-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Mustafizur broke the partnership by dismissing Kushal Malla who started the innings from 26-5. Kushal Malla scored 27 runs off 40 balls by hitting 1 four and 1 six. But after that wicket, Nepal could not handle it and lost all the wickets.

For Bangladesh, Tanjim Hasan Saqib took 4 wickets with 7 runs including 2 maidens in 4 overs. Mustafizur Rahman took 3 wickets with 7 runs including 1 maiden in 4 overs. Shakib Al Hasan took 2 wickets while Taskin Ahmed took 1 wicket.

After losing the toss and being invited to bat first, Bangladesh scored 106 runs in the scheduled 20 overs, losing wickets, and Nepal got that target.

Today's match is a battle of prestige for Nepal, who were eliminated from the tournament after suffering a narrow loss of 1 run against South Africa. Nepal kept Bangladesh under pressure from the beginning.

Sompal Kami got the first success for Nepal in the first ball of the innings. Tanjid Hasan took an edge off the bat and was caught by Sompal himself.

The second success was taken by Dipendra Singh Airi in the second over as Nazmul Hossain Shanto. Shanto scored 4 runs and was bowled out by Dipendra.

Liton Das, who had a promising start for Bangladesh, returned to the pavilion in the fifth over. After scoring 10 runs in 12 balls, he was caught out by wicketkeeper Ashif Shaikh off Sompal.

Captain Rohit Paudel who came to bowl the next over also brought success for Nepal. While hitting a big shot, Tohid Hridoy scored 9 runs and was caught by Sandeep Lamichhane.

Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah shared a partnership of 22 runs for all five wickets before the partnership was broken. Mahmudullah was run out in the last ball of the ninth over after scoring 13 runs off 13 balls.

Shakib also returned to the pavilion on the fourth ball of the 12th over. Rohit Paudel, who scored 17 runs off 22 balls, trapped him leg before the wicket.

Sandeep got the first wicket in the 14th over. He bowled Tanjim Hasan Saqib with a beautiful ball. Sandeep took his personal second wicket in the 15th over. Zakir Ali, who scored 12 runs in 26 balls, was also bowled by him. This wicket was Sandeep's 100th T20I wicket.

The ninth success was achieved by Dipendra. Rishad Hossain, who was somewhat aggressive, scored 13 runs in 7 balls and was caught out by Anil at long-off.

The last wicket fell as a run-out in the last over. In the partnership of Rohit and Dipendra, Mustafizur Rahman scored 3 runs and was run out. Bangladesh's Taskin remained unbeaten with 12 runs off 15 balls.

Sompal Kami, Dipendra Singh Airi, Rohit Paudel and Sandeep Lamichhane took 2 wickets for Nepal.

Captain Rohit spent 20 runs in 4 overs. Sandeep completed his quota of 4 overs and gave away 17 runs including 1 maiden. Similarly, Kushal Bhurtel gave 22 runs in 4 overs and did not take any wicket. Avinash Bohora, who bowled the first over in the 19th over, spent 10 runs in 1 over.
