South Africa defeat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets


South Africa beat Sri Lank easily in the fifth match of ongoing ICC T20 WORLD CUP 2024 which is played at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. South Africa restrict Sri Lanka for only 77 runs with the help of their great bowling performance.

The target of 78 runs given by Sri Lanka was chased by a South Africa in the 16.2 overs by losing 4 wickets. For South Africa, Opener batsman Reeza Hendricks can only out 4 runs for the team while Quinton de Kock scored 20 runs in 27 which include 1 six. And then, Captain Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs contribute more runs to the team which led team to the easy victory. Markram scored 12 runs and Stubbs scored 13 runs. 

For Sri Lanka, Nuwan Thusara and Dasun Shanaka both took one wickets each in their spells. While, Wanindu Hasaranga took 2 wickets by giving 22 runs in 3.2 overs.

Before that, Sri Lanka gives the lowest target of 78 runs to the South Africa. Due to the poor batting performance of Sri Lankan batsman they couldn't contribute more runs for the team which can result into a respectable total. Four Sri Lankan batsman Wanindu Hasaranga, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Matheesha  Pathirana, and Nuwan Thusara goes for a duck that turn result into low total. While, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis and Angelo Mathews scored  19 runs, 11 runs and 16 runs respectively and other cannot contribute for team.

South African bowlers did great bowling with least economy that make Sri Lanka restrict in least score. Anrich Nortje alone took 4 wickets by giving only 7 runs in his four over spell at the economy of 1.75. Other bowlers Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, and Ottniel Baartman took 2 wickets, 2 wickets and 1 wicket respectively.

Anrich Nortje became Player of the Match(POM) due to his exceptional bowling performance of 4 wickets by giving only 7 runs in 4 overs.
